At the Toowoomba Languages & Cultures festival on Sunday 8 August 2010, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce was presented with a ‘White Ribbon’ Camellia.
The ‘White Ribbon’ Camellia has been named especially to support Heritage Building Society’s participation in the CEO Challenge Race this year.
John Minz, CEO of Heritage Building Society and Race competitor launched the initiative at the 2010 Camellia and Winter Flower show on 17 August. Says Mr Minz, “Through research I became aware of the shocking statistics on domestic and family violence in Australia and when I saw them I knew I had to do something about it. There has been a lot of interest in my campaign and it is really great that it is a plant for sale because the camellias will continue as a living reminder for this cause as they grow,” he said.
One dollar from the sale of each camellia will go to the White Ribbon Day Foundation.
Ms Bryce was thrilled with her gift and agreed it was a very worthwhile cause. She will ensure it is planted in the garden at Government House, Yarralumla.
